Sometimes It's Worth the Wait

I’ll be the first to admit that my timing is not always ideal. When I showed up at this popular waterfall in the middle of the day, I knew I’d have to wait a little bit. I was waiting for the other visitors to give me a clear path AND I was waiting for a cloud to move across the sun giving me that perfect diffused light. I set up my tripod in the spot I selected for my perfect shot and I sat upon a log and waited.
As luck would have it, I didn’t have to wait very long for both pieces to align. Granted, I was a little uncomfortable as I sat in my spot, knowing I was potentially in someone else’s way for their own snapshots. As the anxious thoughts were rushing through my head I held my ground knowing it wouldn’t take much to miss my opportunity. Someone once told me to get a great landscape shot, you need to make yourself uncomfortable.
All the waiting and the anxious feelings were totally worth it - I love how this photo turned out. Next time I visit a waterfall on the Blue Ridge Parkway, I’ll remember to arrive very early to accomplish what I set out to do with less frustration.
